Kamal’s Inspiring Journey at Wesley Hall

Updated: Feb 11

At Wesley Hall, we see firsthand how community support can change lives, and no story reflects this better than that of Kamal, one of our fantastic volunteers.

When Kamal first arrived in the UK, she faced the challenges of settling into a new country - struggling to build connections and feeling isolated without a support system. But rather than letting loneliness hold her back, she channelled her experiences into something positive.

A year ago, Kamal joined Wesley Hall as a volunteer, eager to learn new skills and give back. Since then, she has gained confidence, completed key training courses such as safeguarding and food hygiene and discovered a passion for helping others.

Wanting to do more for those in similar situations, Kamal has now launched her own community group at Wesley Hall, a space where people can meet, form friendships and celebrate their cultures and traditions. She wants to ensure that no one feels alone, just as she once did.

As part of this initiative, her group recently celebrated Makar Sankranti & Lohri, bringing people together in a joyful, welcoming atmosphere filled with tradition, warmth and laughter. It was a powerful reminder of how important community and connection are in creating a sense of belonging.

Kamal’s journey is an incredible example of resilience and leadership. She’s not only built a future for herself but is now helping others find their place too. We couldn’t be prouder of what she’s accomplished and we’re excited to see her community group flourish.
